Good Shepherd Wool Insulation is manufactured in Canada from sheep wool, with only borate, a naturally occurring element found in the earth, added.  Wool is rapidly renewable, naturally fire resistant and recyclable.    It is non-carcinogenic and does not cause irritation of the eyes, skin or respiratory tract.  It is an excellent thermal insulator and sound barrier and  helps stabilize humidity by absorbing and desorbing moisture.  Research also has shown that wool can absorb and permanently retain high levels of formaldehyde, which is emitted from many common building materials and furniture, as well as nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide, which are normal by-products of combustion processes, such as from gas stoves and heaters.
